To remove the brain, it us helpful to know that this organ is located medially, between the eyes and the operculum.

The skin, muscle and cranium have been dissected away to show the brain. The two large, central lobes visible in this photograph are the optic lobes.

Thebrain is located medially, mid-way between the eyes and the top of the operculum. Use a pair of bone cutters to cut through the cranium at the top of the orbits, and peel back the anterior portion of the cranium. Continue using the bone cutters to cut back along the sides of the cranium, using a heavy pair of dissecting scissors to break through uncut skin and muscle. Use a pair of medium-fine forceps to bluntly dissect away the cranial nerves and remove the brain. A brain of this size can be preserved in formalin whole.
