Necropsy: Remove Liver

Examine the edges of the liver (should be sharp, not rounded) and note the gall bladder. Either carefully dissect the gall bladder or cut a piece of liver away from the area of the gall bladder. Slice or cut the sample into 3-4 mm thick samples and choose 1 or 2 representative pieces for histology.

Bile contains lytic enzymes which, when they come in contact with histological samples, may cause artifactual autoloysis. Therefore, handle the gall bladder gently to aviod rupture.
