Necropsy: Remove Gut Package

Reach in front of and under the liver with a pair of rat-tooth forceps and take hold of the muscular esophagus. Cut through the sinus venosus of the liver and the esophagus. Retract the gut package by the esophagus, cutting the mesenteric attachments. The largest, dark visceral organ in the body cavity is the liver. The esophagus junctions with the stomach, which makes a sharp turn to junction with the intestine. The smaller, dark triangular organ in the mesentary is the spleen. The intestines continue posteriorly to terminate at the vent.
